The Bell Tower Tea Rooms in Salisbury are operated by Salisbury Cathedral, in whose grounds they are situated. The tea rooms offer a fine view of the cathedral, with seats outside and multiple ground floor rooms for those taking tea. The tea rooms are open seven days a week during the summer months, but closed completely from late September until early April. The menu is quite limited, offering sandwiches, a small selection of cakes, cream teas, and hot and cold beverages.
A ham, cheese and pickle toastie, a slice of carrot cake, and a pot of sencha green tea, came to £13.45. The toastie was not the most filling, and the ‘green’ tea the brownest I have ever seen. Indeed it was so well oxidised that its flavour was closer to a black tea than green. It was also rather a shame that there was a long queue for service when I arrived, though it was gone a few minutes later. The carrot cake, their ‘cake of the day’, was thoroughly delicious.
